Question:

Lost my Job on Friday!?

I lost my job on Friday, I have obviously already started looking for a new job, but until I have found one I am thinking of starting my own car cleaning business, where basically will just knock on people doors and drop leaflets if no answer. Have already designed my leaflet, a bit cheezy but will do. Does anyone think this is a good idea? I'm young but need money but am a bit embarrased about it. Your views on this would be appreciated. Cheers!!!

  1. sounds fine to me,apart from the cheesy leaflet and knocking on doors, the latter i cant stand and im sure thousands of other people cant as well. get your leaflet polished up to a more respectable standard, and go from there.dont overcharge, but dont sell yourself short, good luck.

  2. Good luck to you mate! At least you want to work and get up and make something of yourself..if you need the money..why not? you go for it..I know people that aren't bothered to work..and if you are then good for you! Hope it turns out a success for you. x

  3. Well I don't know if it would work.  Perhaps give it a try, see how it goes the first few times around.....and make a judgement from there.

  4. One door closes and another one opens eh? Its good to hear that you aint wallowing in self pity and are trying to do summat proactive.

Couple of points to consider tho man....

    1) Is anybody else offering the same service locally?

    2) Will you be doing this legit? I'm only asking as you'll be self employed and will be liable tp pay tax etc etc.

It might be summat to do on the quiet while you look for a more stable/secure income, if you catch my drift?

Why not pop your CV into local recruitment agencies and see what comes up? Better to have a few options than just the one. But, every tycoon had to start at the bottom, so if you wanna do it, then go for it.

  5. I think it's a great idea - beats sitting on your **** while you're waiting for a new job!

However, will you now be claiming job seekers allowance?  If so, you need to look into how many hours you're allowed to work and how much money you're allowed to earn before your benefits will be affected.  Also, whether you're claiming benefits or not, I would still aim to keep your earnings below the tax threshhold.  It will be too much effort to set up a business like this on a temporary basis and do it properly, but at the same time you don't want to find yourself on the wrong side of the law.

  6. it sounds okay,

however, starting a business for a temporary purpose like that doensm't make sense.

i think it would be a distraction from you seeking out employment.

  7. Go for it since you lost your job on Friday you have nothing to lose.

                       BEST OF LUCK.

  8. I'd pay you £6 to wash the outside of my car. The inside comes extra. The Poles in my nearest town are doing a roaring trade.

Try and find a petrol station that will let you work at he site. People will fill up and have a wash up.
