Lost my Ukrainian passport, living in Australia. What do I do?

I lost my Ukrainian passport; it had my Australian permanent resident visa record inside (we had to get it sent off to Sydney to get them to put it in). I'm extremely worried, this is the only photo ID I have and my birth certificate is in Ukrainian. What do I do? I need to get a new passport as soon as possible but can't seem to find any info that doesn't apply to U.S. citizens. I'm 19.

  1. Here is the contact information for the Ukrainian Embassy in Australia. Contact them, and they will be able to direct you in what you should do.

    Best of luck to you.

  2. Talk to your local police and get a police report stating you've lost it. Make a photocopy of this.

Then inform to the Ukraninan embassy in Canberra (first link). You should be able to get a new passport through them (or they can direct you further). Quote the police report number or give them a copy when you apply.

After that, you talk to DIAC with your new passport and your police report asking the proceedures on how to get a new permanent visa for your passport and what has happened (second link).

BTW don't stress out too much. They deal with this sort of stuff all the time. It will be fine. And if you are in Australia and a permanent resident (after you have your new passport and permanent visa) get a driver's licence or a Proof of Age card from the RTA (mainly so that you don't have to carry around your passport as ID).

  5. the first thing you should do is contact DIMA and tell them you have lost your passport.

it is important to do that so no one else can use your passport.

they will tell you what to do next, including how to get a new passport and visa sticker.
