  1. Call the provider - block the simcard

    Don`t wait.

I`m afraid that, as in any big city - your phone will not be returned.

  2. phone it and see if anyone picks up, maybe it has been found by the one good person in the world and might send it back to you.

other then that i dont think you can do much to prevent what is on the phone from being used/read/seen by whoever finds it.

  3. As mentioned - get onto the provider so at least anyone who has taken it with the intention of keeping/selling it, is "inconvenienced" by the sim card not working.

To be very honest with you, I have to say that the chances that it has been handed in to the police is very slim, but of course it is always worth a try

In Amsterdam when you have lost something (due to the size, amount of people who visit etc), it is indeed normally handed into the police, but they pass this to the Lost and Found Bureau" (Gevonden voorwerpen).

Here is a link to contacting this bureau (the details are in Dutch) http://www.politie-amsterdam-amstelland.... The phone number (from inside NL) is 020 559 3005 (from the UK it is 00 31 20 559 3005 and from the US it is 011 31 20 559 3005, and you can call between 12:00 and 15.30, Mon-Fri

    Good luck
