Question:

Lost my setting?

I practiced some over the summer, but it seems like my setting doesn't have the spring it did in the fall. Will it just take time to get where it used to? or will it never? Everything else seems fine, but then again, i haven't played on a court all summer.

  1. do wall push ups they strengthen your fingers.AND PRACTICE MORE

  2. Hey Rock,

Go back to the basics....lift a few weights to gain upper body strength again....it will come back.....mark a spot on the wall and practice soft sets....hands above your head, eye on the ball, thumbs back like reindeer horns...thumbs actually point toward your eyes...good luck

  3. A lot can change to your setting technique in a matter of months. For example, if you havent played in a while you may be rusty....or you may have gone back to bad habits you may have had before a coach corrected them.......also, if you were playing this summer with a beach volleyball, they are different in size than an indoor one and that could throw you off

  4. Nooo, it will definitely come back to you. If your setting was decent before, you can get it back to that point and better. It happens to me all the time with setting more than any other volleyball skill. If I haven't been playing consistently almost everyday I lose my touch. It feels like my fingers have perhaps lost strength or their memory of how to set but once you start playing everyday for a few hours your skill will be back in no time and then you can work on improving it. Just don't wait for too long of periods to play. Give yourself rest time of course but not too long, ya know? If anything else is rusty, it will also come back as good as it was before. Once you get to where you were, all the rest is getting better and better and improving and it is SO much fun to realize that. :D
