Lost taskbar icons?

Question

I'm pretty frustrated because I have lost taskbar icons such as the volume control and battery life icons. I bought this laptop a couple of months ago (vista) and downgraded to xp programs out of personal preference. Those programs are working just fine but I have recently noticed the loss of those icons.

My computer has been touched by no-one but myself, has not been dropped, has not over-heated ever . . . nothing.

How can I fix this problem?

Follow these steps at Smokey's site to restore them in the System Tray....
