After losing on their Champions League debut, Montpellier Herault have a lot of work to do in order to rediscover the form that made them French champions last season
Despite a great second half performance in their first-ever Champions League game, Montpellier Herault eventually lost to Arsene Wenger’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at the Stade de la Mosson last night. However, despite registering another defeat this season, La Paillade players
can hold their heads high after a great display against a side that had defeated 6-1 Southampton in the Premier League.
Moroccan international, Younes Belhanda opened scoring for the home side with a delightful chip via a penalty. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 scored two quick goals to give the London side a good lead heading into the second half.
Despite being very bright in the opening stages of the game, Belhanda failed to get it right in the final stages of the game when he hit his shot straight at stand-in keeper for the night, Mannone. And, Belhanda was not really impressed by the result but
said that playing against a good side like Arsenal is never an easy task.
However, what must be noted is the fact that Montpellier had their fair share of chances to get the required result but they simply failed to take any single one of them. Former striker, Olivier Giroud once again failed to get on the score-sheet but played
a big part in both of Arsenal’s goals.
Languishing in 16th place in the Ligue 1 standings, Rene Girard should be delighted to see Remy Cabella do well.
However, despite their promising showing, frustration prevails, especially in the media. Midi Libre summed up the French champions’ night with the title, “MHSC valiant but Arsenal win”.
Aujourd’h*i en http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 blamed Montpellier to be too soft while L’Equipe summed up last night’s events as ,”Harvest Day”.
Four times, Remy Cabella failed to find an equaliser. However, despite losing, coach Rene Girard should be hopeful of turning his team’s fortunes around in the league.
“A lot of satisfaction, many regrets. Sin was the same things since the beginning of the season. In two minutes, you do not kill the game. We almost had the hardest part by opening the scoring. After that, we did not know where we were going,” said Girard
while talking to L’Equipe.
