The former Germany international rates Die Mannschaft as favourites to win the upcoming European competition.
Former Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder, Lothar Matthaus, has predicted Germany as favourites to win this year’s European championship. The tournament is taking place in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 with Germany being placed in Group
B alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753.
Matthaus reckons that this is the best German side and is in with a perfect opportunity to reclaim the crown from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 qualified for the competition with hundred
percent record and believes that if Joachim Low’s men could maintain their current form then they might be unstoppable.
The 51-year-old enthused that Germany have become competent and far stronger since the 2010 World Cup. He predicted a tough competition tipping his country as favourites to claim the crown and break their winless spell.
While talking to The Times of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/India-c750, the one-time World Cup winner further added:
"Germany came through the qualifying with a perfect record, having won all their group matches and booking their Euro berth with two matches in hand. Joachim Low’s side has gone from strength to strength since their semi-final
loss in the 2010 World Cup against Spain and there is no doubt in my mind that they can dethrone the World and European championship if they play to their potential."
On the other hand, Matthaus also insisted that the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 and the Netherlands also stand in with a good chance. He stated that the reigning European and World Champions might not find things easier as each country
is well prepared and raring to take up the Spanish challenge who are tipped as second favourites behind the DFB-Eleven.
"Apart from Germany, Spain will be wary of the Dutch Armada with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 in fine form this season,” Matthaus concluded.
Germany will take on Portugal on June 9, then the Clockwork Orange on June 13 and Denmark on June 17 in their last group fixture. It must be noted that Germany lost their last friendly fixture to France in February this year which
was their only competitive game scheduled before the tournament.
