almost scared me that there are about 100 dead millipedes or similar worm scarttered on my unfinished base floor. not sure where and when they come/drop there. haven't been to basement for a while till today. it's a new house of 2 years old. is it possible these millipedes are from the wood that build the house? why they are there? because it's too dry or too wet in my basement? and they are all dead on the floor? besides sweep them away. do I need to do anything to my basement or outside the house? confused please help. thank you in advance.

  1. They just sneak in when you are not looking. You probably have spiders and silverfish too.  Just try not to scream the first time you see a silverfish, they are very creepy.

  2. No they weren't in the wood when the house was built. They are crawling in. You can get a back pack sprayer and some pesticide from one of the many "do it yourself pest control"  stores online. The label will tell you what the pesticide is good for. There isn't a one time solution. Take note of when you saw them and be proactive next year soaking down the mulch/soil 3 - 4' out around the perimeter of your house about 2 weeks before their date of arrival this year. You may be able to beat them back with one or two heavy applications. You'll be surprised how effective this is for most all pests. If your basement floor is unpainted concrete, I'd get some Demon wettable powder and apply it around the inside perimeter. It will leave a slight visible residue but it will remain potent for a long time. If your basement floor is painted or has a sealant, the same pesticide you used outside will work for the inside of the basement.

Your sprayer must be a diaphragm pump design as opposed to a piston if a wettable powder if used.
