Hi, I recently purchased an Apple iPod Touch 8 GB. But it is an old model, so I will have to update it to Firmware 2.0. I want to know that how will I connect it to my Windows Vista powered laptop and how will I transfer files. Again, how to use its Wi-fi and how to update it to 2.0 software. Also what features V2.0 includes. Can I put an antivirus software in my iPod. Can I download all those applications of Apple Store and V2.0 update on my computer and then transfer it to iPod Touch. Will I have to backup the data stored on iPod for updating to 2.0, if yes then how. THANKS FOR A COMPLETE ANSWER. 10 POINTS AND APPRECIATION ASSURED.

  1. Load itunes from www.apple.com./itunes

    restart your laptop.

Then remember You MUST use itunes to add music to your ipod dragging them onto it simply adds them as disk mode. to play they have to be in special hidden folders and in a hidden index file that only itunes can create.

The iPOD is a slave device to the computer/itunes which is the Master music organiser/player and file store. each itunes can have many ipods connected (paired) to it but each ipod can only be paired to one computer at a time.

if you sync it with one computer then your another computer it will erase everything each time and replace it with the current computers library.

you put the songs into itunes then sync it with that. also only purchased songs that are authorised will be synced. check under the store tab in itunes that this computer is authorised to the itunes store account that purchased the songs.

If this ipod is paired to your computer then there are no problems but if it has things on it from another computer they will be lost on pairing.(copy the contents of the itunes music folder form your old computer to the new one and add it to the itunes library to use it)

then connect it to your Computer with itunes running, log into the apple store (needs password and charge card or gift card to do this)

then buy the 2.0 upgrade £5.99 and install it.

you do NOT need anti virus for the ipod as its file system is based on unix and is secure as is the mac OS 10.5 on which its based.

itunes will back up the information thats on the ipod before the upgrade after it has been paired.

v2.0    adds the ability to add apps, the apps store, plus if older 1.1.2 unit it also adds mail and utube and maps applications.
