Lotta Wahlin and Tandi Cunningham grab early lead in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters: Live Leaderboard
First round of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters is underway at the scenic eEmirates Golf Club, Majilis Course, marking the last leg of the Ladies European Tour event in the United Arab Emirates and Swede Lotta Wahlin and South African Tandi Cunningham have
now surged to the top of the leaderboard. Both players carded rounds of six-under, 66 on the opening day and while Wahlin dropped a shot at par-four, 16th, Cunningham remained bogey free for the whole 18-hole stretch. The South African is still
working on the last hole of the first round.
Becky Brewerton, the staunch Welshwoman, carded a round of five-under, 67 on the first day to finish for an outright second for the moment, trailing the leaders by one shot. Finland’s Minea Blomqvist is pitched for a joint fourth alongside Swede Linda Wessberg
a further two shots back.
Earlier in the day, young guns of the LET surged to the top of the leaderboard including the 16-year-old professional Lexi Thompson and another 16-year-old professional, Klara Spilkova from the Czech Republic. Spilkova, a Tour rookie from Prague, carded
five splendid birdies on t`he back nine before making the turn. The front nine proved to be a shear disappointment as the youngster dropped no fewer than three shots on the front including a double-bogey at par-four, 8th. She finished for an even-par,
72 and is currently poised at joint 41st.
Thompson started off her first round with a birdie on the second but dropped a shot at par-four, 5th to level her score. She made the turn to drop another shot at the 10th. She jolted back into action on the last three holes when she
pulled in consecutive birdies to finish for a two-under, 70.
No less than six players are tied for the seventh place including the Turkish Airlines Open winner Christel Boeljon of Netherlands, American Jaclyn Sweeney, South African Lee-Anne Pace, Englishwoman Elizabeth Bennett, Frenchwoman Julie Maisongrosse, and
another Englishwoman Rachel Jennings.
Rampaging tour rookie Caroline Hedwall, winner of last week’s Hero Honda Indian Open, had a disappointing day so far, when she stumbled on a bogey on the first hole of the back nine. She fell in for a disastrous double-bogey on the par-five, 18th
after carding her first birdie on the 17th. She made the turn for the front nine and has not carded a single birdie through the first five holes on the front.
