Lotte Friis captures Women’s 800m freestyle gold – 2012 European SC Swimming Championships
Lotte Friis of Denmark captured gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on second day of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Friday, November 23.
The Danish swimmer stifled hopes of her opponents in the distant freestyle discipline as she proved her mettle for the title.
With her notable form, Friis remained prominently ahead of her challengers and tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 8 minutes and 10.24 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who stayed nearly five seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 15.66 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Aimee Willmott of Great Britain, who remained 3.24 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher but managed to reach the podium for bronze medal by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 18.90 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained Sarah Koehler of Germany, who stayed 1.08 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and reached the finishing blockade by clocking an effort of 8 minutes and 19.98 seconds.
Koehler was traced by Martina de Memme of Italy, who stayed two and a half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 8 minutes and 22.59 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Diletta Carli of Italy, who stayed one and a half body length behind and cruised her way towards the wall by clocking an effort of 8 minutes and 24.15 seconds.
Carli was followed by Maria Vilas Vidal of Spain, who was 1.16 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and concluded her race in seventh place by posting a time of 8 minutes and 25.31 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who posted a time of 8 minutes and 31.15 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Friis was happy with her splendid finish in the race and collected medal and accolades after the race.
