Lotte Friis conquers Women’s 200m freestyle title in Thisted: 2011 Danish Short Course Nationals
The final evening session of the 2011 Danish Short Course Nationals kicked off in scintillating fashion with the attention grabbing swim of Denmark’s athlete, Lotte Friis, in Thisted, on Sunday, November 27. Friis secured gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet.
Lotte Friis performed well against Mie Nielsen and Pernille Blume in the final match, where Friis rose to the expectations of her followers and put forward sizzling turns in the pool against her opponents. Lotte banged the finishing divider in a winning time of 1 minute and 56.31 seconds to win the Women’s 200m freestyle title.
The effort moved Friis to sixteenth spot in the existing rankings of world swimming. Friis won bronze medal in Women’s 800m freestyle at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. In addition, she claimed two gold medals in 800m and 1500m freestyle events at the 2009 and 2011 World Championship editions, in Rome and Shanghai, respectively. Furthermore, she won two gold titles in the respective races at the 2010 European Championships edition, in Budapest.
Meanwhile, Mie Nielsen earned silver title in the respective splash by thrashing the finishing wall in a striking mark of 1 minute and 56.70 seconds. More importantly, Nielsen moved to Number 24 place in the current ranking of international swimming. The bronze title went to Pernille Blume in a matchless blot of 1 minute and 58.34 seconds.
Pernille Juel earned fourth place honours by hitting the finishing divider in a time of 2 minutes and 01.96 seconds, while the fifth place went to Kia Hansen after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in a mark of 2 minutes and 02.76 seconds, respectively.
Amalie Emma Thomsen got sixth position in the respective swim by striking the finishing fence in a time of 2 minutes and 03.21seconds. Julie Brøndum Petersen finished seventh by touching the finishing blockade in a time of 2 minutes and 03.93 seconds. At the end, Anna Maria Svanbergsson settled at eighth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 03.84 seconds.
