Lotte Friis occupies Women’s 1500m freestyle gold: Day one – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Lotte Friis of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM grabbed the crown of Women’s 1500m freestyle on the primary day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Tuesday, April 24.
The 24-year-old Friis astonished the crowd by winning her second gold medal of the championship on the first day.
Previously, she proved her mettle in the 200m freestyle while this time, she overpowered the distant freestyle event, making no mistakes and reaching the wall for gold medal.
Friis outsmarted her challengers in the 1500m discipline with her fabulous effort of 16 minutes and 11.76 seconds.
She was followed by Cecilia Elizabeth Biagioli of UNISANTA, who stayed nearly two strokes behind and ended her swim in second best place by touching the wall with the timing of 16 minutes and 13.84 seconds.
Her gruelling effort was followed by Friis’s team-member, Poliana Okimoto, who stayed nearly thirty-four seconds slower from Biagioli and tapped the wall for third position by producing a time of 16 minutes and 47.37 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Carolina Bilich of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed nearly twenty-three seconds behind and hit the finishing end for fourth position with the timing of 17 minutes and 10.81 seconds.
Similarly, fifth position of the 1500m event was obtained by Bianca Giacon Avella, who suffered a deficit of almost five seconds and touched the wall with the timing of 17 minutes and 15.59 seconds.
Avella was followed by Maria Caroline Ferreira of CRF/RJ, who finished her swim in sixth place by producing a time of 17 minutes and 25.76 seconds.
With her aggressive swim, she remained almost two seconds faster from Jessica Veronez, who tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 17 minutes and 27.35 seconds.
Subsequently, Veronez was trailed by Jessica Egashira Moretti, who remained considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 17 minutes and 30.83 seconds.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the completion of all listed events while the position holders collected medals and accolades for their remarkable performances in the 1500m discipline at the medal ceremony of the championship.
