Lotte Jonathans and Paulien Van Dooremalen claim Women’s Doubles title at Dutch International
Netherlands’ ace shuttlers Lotte Jonathans and Paulien Van Dooremalen proved their worth on home soil when they claimed Women’s Doubles title at the Dutch International 2012 on Sunday, April 15.
In the final match of the event, Lotte and Paulien were up against their compatriots Selena Piek and Iris Tabeling and managed to win the contest in hard fought three games.
Lotte and Paulien, who were top seeds in Women’s Doubles draw, had to work to their maximum limit to knock down their opponents in a thrilling contest with a tight score on the board.
On the other hand, the third seeded shuttlers Selena and Iris put up sensational show of top quality badminton but remained unlucky in the ending points and lost this thrilling contest in 65 minutes with a narrow margin.
In the opening set of this Women’s Doubles final contest, both sides put in their maximum effort to take an early lead and get a strong position in the opening half.
However, both sides could not make it as the score remained close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they again showed impressive performance by playing fast and killing badminton and remained in control.
Lotte and Paulien lost their control the concluding phase and dropped the set with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the second game, Lotte and Paulien changed their tactics but again failed to build lead as the score was close until the 60-second interval.
After the break, both pairs were quicker in taking the bird early and placing their shots in the right areas. Nevertheless, Lotte and Paulien managed to take the game with a tight score of 21-19.
In the deciding set, the drama continued as both sides remained neck-to-neck until the end of first half.
After the break, they continued playing positive badminton without committing unforced errors at any stage.
The score reached at 21-21 when Lotte and Paulien showed their brilliance and secured two consecutive points to end the game with a 23-21 margin on the board.
Lotte and Paulien took the Women’s Doubles title after winning the final battle with a margin of 17-21, 21-19 and 23-21.
