Question:

Lotto Scratch-off tickets?

The NY Lotto web page lists the status of all scratch tickets .

It states which tickets no longer have top prizes and also which tickets have "expired". What do they mean by expired? I see they are still being sold in stores. Does that mean there are no more winning tickets out there? Or if there is a winning ticket - too bad "it expired" and will not be paid?? What do they mean??

  1. Expired means that those tickets are no longer in circulation or will no longer be produced.  For most scratch-off tickets, you have a certain amount of time that a winning ticket will be honored. After that, you are just out of luck.  For most states, you have about 1 - 2 years to collect on a winner.

  2. It means that they will no longer pay the winning amount on those tickets. They should not still be selling them in stores.
