Lotus F1 is optimistic of winning another race in the 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Eric Boullier, who is the team principal for Lotus F1, is hopeful that the team can score another win after Kimi Raikkonen attained his first ever race victory of the current season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing had won the last four races before the Abu Dhabi GP consecutively but his luck finally ran out as he was disqualified to start the race from the pit lane after a fuel irregularity with his car. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren
had scored the pole for his team in the qualifying round and had been successfully leading the race until his car came to a halt in the twentieth lap due to another reliability issue which have been very common for the team this season. With the quickest car
on the grid at the far back and Hamilton having lost his lead, Raikkonen successfully led the race to score his first fantastic win of the season.
The achievement has been a cause of hope for the whole team and Boullier thinks that they can win another race even if there are only two more to go until they decide the championship.
“There's a fantastic feeling of excitement and we have two races yet to go,” he said. “We did it once and we can do it again this season. It took us time to get this win but we all knew that we could do it. It did arrive at a time when more and more people
start working on next year's car, which is good timing.”
He thinks that the race is proof of Raikkonen’s comeback to the sport. He says that it is good to see the driver scoring points and finishing at podiums once again. He added that he has pleased the team as well as his fans.
“This was maybe a surprise for anyone on the outside of the team that doubted him, but for everyone on the inside it was not,” Boullier commented.
The team has been basking in the glory of their recent win and Raikkonen’s comments over the team radio have become a Formula 1 favourite. The driver has been buying shirts with the phrase ‘leave me alone, I know what I’m doing’ printed on them for the whole
team.
