Lotus F1 names Thomas Mayer as the new CEO and Patrick Louis as COO – Formula 1 news
Lotus have named Thomas Mayer as the new chief executive officer and promoted Patrick Louis to Chief operations officer.
Mayer has taken over from Louis and the duo will be working closely with team Principal Eric Boullier. The team has been trying to get its house in order to improve on its poor showing in 2011. Team chairman Gerard Lopez mentioned that restructuring is necessary
in order to be more efficient. They plan to be one of the top teams within the next three seasons.
“Our fight to return to the front of the grid is a continual process, and we are leaving no stone unturned,” Lopez said. “The contributions that Patrick Louis and Eric Boullier have made so far have been invaluable.”
“Thomas comes to us with over 15 years' professional experience. He has an in-depth knowledge of running large operations incorporating production, logistics and organisational structuring. Our efforts are concerted behind our objective to be a contender
once more for the 2015-16 championships, to continue the proud heritage of the 1994-95 and 2005-06 world championship titles achieved by Enstone,” he said.
Lotus have been changing quite a few things to prepare well for the 2012 season. They were also successful in luring back Kimi Raikkonen to Formula 1. Raikkonen will be partnered by Romain Grosjean a promising young driver who featured for Renault in 2009.
The season will be integral to the foundation of Lotus F1’s growth in the coming seasons and it may bring them to the forefront. The results will be highly dependent on how good their latest edition of the car stands up to others on the grid and how well
Raikkonen adapts to rigours of Formula 1 after almost a two-year banishment from the sport.
The first pre-season test will begin on February 7, 2012 at Jerez featuring all the teams excluding Mercedes AMG who will be ready for the second pre-season test. Marussia and HRT will be participating with the 2011 versions of their cars as they feel they
need more time to develop the 2012 editions.
The season will begin on March 16, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix.
