Lotus’ Mike Gascoyne says Trulli, Kovalainen were excellent during Belgium GP – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus technical boss Mike Gascoyne has said that both the drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen were excellent during the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix held on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Spa-Francorchamps.
Gascoyne added that after their poor start in the 2011 Formula 1 season, they recovered very well in the Belgium race weekend.
The team’s technical director also mentioned that the 2011 Belgium Grand Prix was the strongest performance of the Hethel-based outfit since joining Formula 1.
Team Lotus driver Trulli struggled for most of the laps with his car’s damaged floor. On the other hand, Kovalainen required a new front wing during the race when both of the drivers were pushed into each other at Spa-Francorchamps because of the crash between
Virgin’s Timo Glock and Paul di Resta of Force India.
Gascoyne commented, “Both drivers were excellent today, but the pit crew deserves special praise for having taken a massive step forward in their performance. All our stops were exactly what we needed so congratulations to them for a job very well done today.”
On the other hand, Trulli talked to the media and mentioned that he was satisfied to have a trouble-free race in Belgium on Sunday.
The Italian driver added, “I had a great start, passing a few other cars away from the line but then the accident in T1 [La Source] meant both Heikki and I suffered damage - him to his nosecone, me to the floor and I had to run the whole race with that damage,
so to finish 14th after that is just fantastic.”
Trulli completed 43 laps of the race at Spa circuit and came at the 14th place in the final race classifications after starting from the 18th place on the grid. His teammate Kovalainen
ended his Belgium race behind Trulli. He started his Grand Prix from the 16th position on Spa-Francorchamps and after putting all of his efforts, he ended up in the 15th spot ahead of Williams’
Rubens Barrichello.
Let’s see how Team Lotus perform in the remainder of the ongoing season following their positive Belgium race weekend.
