Lotus Racing extends Mike Gascoyne’s contract for five years
Lotus Racing has extended the contract with its chief technical officer, Mike Gascoyne, for five years. Earlier, Gascoyne had a one year contract with Lotus. The extended contract would stretch till 2015 for which both sides expressed
their joy.
The Lotus team made its debut this year after Tony Fernandes, the team boss, established it at the end of 2009 season. Fernandes is a Malaysian airline tycoon who had always been a great fan and supporter of Formula One.
The team has had a tough season till now. It kept on struggling all through and still hasn’t been able to bag the maiden points. Fernandes, while talking to the media persons, said that Lotus Racing is delighted to have Mike (Gascoyne) for another five years.
He added that this action shows the commitment and seriousness with which the team is heading towards the upcoming seasons. He continued that this not only spells the future aspirations from the officer but also serve as a reward to Gascoyne for all his
hard work. “On a personal level, I've really enjoyed the last year that we've been working together, and I'm very excited about working with Mike for many years to come."
Meanwhile, Gascoyne stated, "Having started the team from scratch with Tony, it was always my intention to finish my career here. So, it's great to have formally agreed a five year deal." The Briton expressed his gratitude to the entire crew and especially
to Fernandes. "We've had a great start to our partnership together, and I'm looking forward to continue that for the next five years, and even beyond that."
Moreover, Lotus Racing is also facing a controversy regarding its name as the Malaysian car producer, Proton, has claimed to own its rights and is reluctant to let Fernandes use it for another season.
