Lotus Renault GP boss Eric Boullier anxious to know about Robert Kubica’s return – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP boss Eric Boullier has recently stated that he is anxious to know about Robert Kubica’s return to the sport as he wants to keep the Pole in the team’s final drivers’ line-up for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
“My issue is I cannot miss the opportunity to have Robert back, but at the same time I have to protect the interests of this team. I need to define the best driver line-up, or the best one I can afford,” said Boullier.
Kubica had to sit out for the 2011 Formula 1 season as he went through a major rally accident during the pre-season testing sessions. As a result, he faced some major injuries and was unable to move his right hand effectively.
Recently, he went through the final surgery in order to restore full movement of his hand and therefore, his chances of returning to the sport for the 2012 Formula 1 season are high and that is the reason why Boullier wants a confirmation from his management.
The team recently got rid of Nick Heidfeld who according to the team was not performing up to the mark and his experience did not benefit the team in any way. After that, the team decided to bring in Bruno Senna, the team’s test driver into play and he is
now performing quite effectively as he finished in 9th place at this past weekend’s Italian Grand Prix while his teammate Vitaly Petrov retired out of the race as a result of a crash.
“I will be flexible because I really like Robert and it is worth for him to be back, but by the middle of October or the end of October I need to have clear confirmation, even if we have some work to go through,” Boullier added.
Nevertheless, there are still 6 races remaining in the 2011 Formula 1 season as a result of which the team has time to figure out its options and probably come up with the best possible drivers’ line-up for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
