Lotus Renault GP boss Eric Boullier says Romain Grosjean ready to return to Formula 1 world
Lotus Renault GP’s team principal Eric Boullier has recently stated that the former Renault driver Romain Grosjean is now ready to return to the sport since he has recently secured the GP2 title and has been performing outstandingly in 2011.
“He did it all in the correct manner which is very important. Everybody is talking about him in the paddock now; he became the new GP2 champion three races before the end, which is impressive. He's done a good job in that discipline and I think he's now
ready to step back into Formula One,” said Boullier.
Renault are currently going through a very rough patch in 2011 as they are now way behind their closest rivals Mercedes GP in terms of pace as a result of which they might not be able to catch up with them in the constructors’ championship. Mercedes GP are
currently in 4th place while Renault are in 5th,
30 points adrift.
The team has decided to replace Nick Heidfeld for the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix as well since he did not perform up to the mark but the main reason for the team’s performance decline is the absence of Robert Kubica.
Kubica went through a near fatal accident as a result of which he has not been able to take part in the 2011 Formula 1 season and therefore, he was replaced by Heidfeld.
Vitaly Petrov on the other hand is going through his second Formula 1 season as a result of which one cannot expect much from him all of a sudden.
With Bruno Senna alongside him for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, the team is hoping for some positive results and since Kubica is set to return to the team in 2012, it is going to be interesting to see how the team’s performance changes next year.
Nevertheless, the team is still trying its best to improve its car as much as they can but since Mercedes has drivers like Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher, it seems that Renault might lose to them yet again this year.
