Lotus Renault GP boss Eric Boullier upset at his team’s Singapore GP performance – Formula 1 news
Renault team principal Eric Boullier has said that their team’s performance at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street circuit was not up to the mark.
Boullier admits that he had expected the Singapore race be a tough one but the results have come out to be far too disappointing than what he had thought. He did anticipate the night race to be challenging for the Renault team and he knew that the track
would not turn out to be so friendly for the Enstone-based team. However, he was not ready for the 15th and 18th qualifying positions and later a disappointing 15th and 17th position
finish by Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov respectively.
Boullier was very upset at his team’s performance during this weekend’s race at the Marina Street Circuit and was not at all happy to see the final results.
Boullier said, “The R31 was never suited to street circuits and there were very few reasons to hope this might change here. However, we never expected our performance to be so embarrassing. Seeing our cars so low in the classification today, clearly struggling
for grip among blue flags was a painful experience.”
Both Senna and Petrov could have fared better for their team had they not made mistakes during the race that cost them both time and race positions. Senna had a collision with a wall after his first pit stop while Petrov was found struggling with his car’s
Kinetic Energy Recovery System throughout the race.
Renault technical director James Allison commented, “We did not start today with high hopes; poor pace and high tyre degradation during the race simulation runs on Friday are not good weapons to take into the race and our cars suffered accordingly.”
According to Boullier, the team’s performance had been only satisfactory and was not up to the mark that was expected of them.
Having spoken of the team’s poor performance, Boullier now has his fingers crossed for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for October 9, 2011.
Let’s see how the team performs at the high speed Suzuka circuit in about two week’s time.
