Lotus Renault GP coming up with some new upgrades for the Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP’s James Allison has recently revealed that the team is coming up with some major upgrades to their 2011 car for the Belgian Grand Prix in order to take the advantage over their rivals Mercedes GP.
“We will bring a new floor, a reworked exhaust, modifications to the rear brake duct, various detailed changes around the bargeboard region and a different rear suspension arrangement. None of the changes are individually huge, but together they are a fair
package,” he said.
Renault have not been able to cope up with Mercedes GP’s pace as the team has not been able to qualify in Q3 consistently as a result of which at least one of the Renault drivers starts from less than 10th place on the
grid and their overall statistical performance for that respective event gets ruined.
In order to get rid of these problems, the team has evaluated its car and they are now aware of its ‘pros and cons’ more clearly.
However, the team has admitted that they have shifted their focus to the 2012 Formula 1 season and some of the developments have been transferred for the next car.
“Around this time of year the majority of the team's aerodynamic resources have transferred to the next season's car. We will deliver upgrades to the car for the next three to four races as a result of research performed prior to the summer break, but after
that the changes will become more modest,” he added.
The team had a very decent start as they were able to secure 2 podium positions in the first two races of the season. At this point, they were looking much faster than Mercedes GP and it seemed that they were even going to be a part of the top running teams
of the sport.
However, things did not turn out that way for them as Mercedes performed more consistently while Renault failed to score good consistent results after the first couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
