Lotus Renault GP driver Bruno Senna feels he still has a long way to go – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP Bruno Senna feels that he is still playing catch up and has a long way to go in the Formula 1 arena.
Bruno Senna replaced Nick Heidfeld ahead of the 2011 Belgian Grand Prix to partner Vitaly Petrov. The Brazilian driver feels that he has not had enough time to fully learn and develop his driving skills and he needs to more races before he can join the league
of top Formula 1 drivers.
Senna said, “Not yet. Undoubtedly they still have the upper hand because they have completed more races than me.”
Looking at his career, the Brazilian has not had a very diverse and rich driving experience as compared to other drivers.
He said, “So far, I've driven at three very different circuits so far in very different conditions, and Suzuka will be another of the traditional races where I have limited experience.”
Commenting on his personal aim for the rest of the season, Senna said, “My prerogative is adding more points to my name. If we can still add to the car a little bit here and there, that will help. We need to stay ahead of the teams behind us, in particular
Force India. If we can close the gap to Mercedes GP in fourth, that would be a real boost for the team but primarily we must hold on to fifth position.”
Senna feels that due to the low-speed nature of Marina Bay Street Circuit, their team could not perform that well. However, they have some upgrades ready and in place for the upcoming race at Japan which should bring them positive results. He is optimistic
that the high-speed Suzuka track will be friendlier to their upgraded cars as compared to the low-downforce Marina Bay circuit.
Renault are more concerned at the moment about defending its fifth position on the constructors’ standing than climbing atop to fourth position. The fast progressing Force India team poses a real threat to the Enstone-based team.
Let’s see how Renault GP perform at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka racetrack.
