Lotus Renault GP driver Heidfeld says he will stay with team even if Kubica returns – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has said that he would gladly stay with his current team until the end of the 2011 season, even if Robert Kubica is able to rejoin the team after a few races.
Heidfeld admitted that he is happy with Renault, as he took a positive start to the 2011 season. The team driver further added that he received full support from Renault since the start of the season. However, he is quite satisfied with them and wants to
end the campaign positively.
On the other hand, Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli has informed that it might be possible that the Polish driver returns from his injuries some time soon in the ongoing season.
He also mentioned that Kubica might be fit enough to take part in the season-ending November’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
Morelli said, “Robert can once again clasp objects with his right hand, but he must still develop the muscle power. The rehabilitation is running positively.”
The German driver is looking for a long-term future with Renault. He added, “I would gladly stay with this team. If Robert returns, maybe the second cockpit will be available.”
A few days ago, Renault team boss Eric Boullier said that Kubica’s return to the 2011 season was unlikely, as he had not completely recovered from his injuries that he sustained during the rally crash earlier in the year.
With regards to Renault’s progress in the season, the team drivers are working hard to do well. In the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, their driver Vitaly Petrov had a good race after his crash in the previous Monaco Grand Prix. He took a fifth place
for the team, while his teammate Heidfeld retired from the race due to an accident.
The team was happy with Petrov’s performance, but they were disappointed with Heidfeld’s accident, as they believed he will end his race on the podium in the Montreal race weekend.
Renault are looking forward to their podium finish in the upcoming European Grand Prix which will take place next weekend in Valencia.
