Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica’s return to Formula 1 still uncertain
Lotus Renault driver, Robert Kubica’s racing career still lies in uncertainty. The doctors reported earlier today that although the driver had been "very lucky" and is recovering fast, yet it is still too early to tell if he will be able to recover completely
for future racing.
The Polish driver still remains in the Italian hospital, recovering from the horrific wounds of the Rally crash. Although he has already undergone three major surgeries, and apparently all three have been successful, the medical-staff insists that the driver
needs to spend some more weeks in the hospital.
While talking to the media earlier today, the Santa Corona Hospital’s spinal unit chief, Antonino Massone, said, "There are milestones to be met, and his journey will be long. For a month, there is the risk of infection. When a bone is exposed for 45 minutes,
as it was in this case, it is attacked by bacteria and we need to treat it with antibiotics."
At the Lotus Renault camp, the replacement driver Nick Heidfeld has already been signed for the upcoming 2011 season. Although, Heidfeld’s contract with the team clearly states that he can be replaced any time during the season, yet, Kubica’s doctors do
not believe that he will be able to make to the track this season. They even refrained from confirming if the 26-year-old will ever be able to race again.
However, Kubica's manager, Daniele Morelli hailed him as "extraordinary", and told the reporters that he is a good patient "because he is a driver".
He further explained, "The doctors and physiotherapists, for him, are like the engineers at Renault; adjusting, modifying and correcting the machine for the best result."
Nevertheless, despite all these speculations, the driver is still very optimistic, and assured his fans that he will soon be in good shape. He further added that he believes that he had been ‘very lucky’ to survive such a horrific crash.
He concluded saying that although the rehabilitation process is expected to be a long and difficult one, yet, he is not worried at all.
