Lotus Renault GP driver Vitaly Petrov hoping for positive results after summer break – Formula 1
Lotus Renault GP have been struggling to perform since the past couple of races as they are way off the pace of their rivals Mercedes GP. Since Formula 1 is going to be on a month-long break, Vitaly Petrov believes that this break will help the team improve
its pace and get back on even terms with their rivals.
“We have a break now which gives us time to reflect and really home in on what needs to be improved. Often when you have back-to-back races, there's not sufficient time to take a step back at what's taken place. Now, with the August break, we have that opportunity,”
he told the media.
The team secured two podium positions in the first two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season after which Renault were considered as one of the top running teams of the season. Unfortunately, their performance has been deteriorating since then and they have
not been able to secure a single podium.
Other than that, the Hungarian Grand Prix was a major blow to Renault as this was the first race weekend in 2011 where the team did not score a single point. Nick Heidfeld had to retire out of the race while Petrov finished in 12th place.
“They [the team] know already what to do, we just need some time to build our parts as quick as possible. Definitely we will do a big step forward in Belgium and we try to come back to the front of the field,” said Petrov.
Nevertheless, the Belgian Grand Prix is going to be the next race event and since the teams have a lot of time before it, we can expect some changes in each team’s respective pace as a result of which, the upcoming race is going to be very unpredictable.
Lotus Renault GP are currently in 5th place in the constructors’ standings with 66 points while Mercedes GP are currently in 4th place with 80 points. Mercedes are much faster than Renault at the moment as a result of which, the upcoming
race would be very difficult for Renault.
