Lotus Renault GP injured driver Robert Kubica states he is very lucky – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP’s former full season driver Robert Kubica recently stated that he feels lucky as he survived the horrific accident he went through during a rally event about a month ago.
Other than that, he also avoided any sort of major injury. One has to admit that his doctors did an amazing job to enable him to recover fully and it is believed that he might be able to race once again after a year’s time.
“I know I'm not in good shape, but I consider myself very lucky. I am facing a long and difficult rehabilitation, but I am not worried about that,” Kubica told the media.
Robert almost lost his right hand as a result of this accident but thanks to his doctors, it seems that the Pole will be able to use his right hand’s functionality fully after going through the rehabilitation process. His rehabilitation will begin after
his right hand recovers fully though.
Kubica went through three major operations in order to stabilize his right arm and foot’s condition but it seems that he is still not in a comfortable state. It is quite obvious that he will not be able to use his right arm or foot until the rehabilitation
process begins as he is currently not in control of the nervous system of these parts of his body like he used to be. However, it is believed that he would recover with due time.
His doctors have revealed that he will not recover fully in a short amount of time and that his team and relatives will have to be patient.
“There are milestones to be met, and his journey will be long. For a month, there is the risk of infection. When a bone is exposed for 45 minutes, as it was in this case, it is attacked by bacteria and we need to treat it with antibiotics,” admitted Santa
Corona Hospital’s spinal unit chief Antonino Massone.
However, Antonio stated that Robert Kubica has been very obedient and patient during this process and Robert’s manager Daniel Morelli also stated that the Pole is a good patient because he is a driver.
“The doctors and physiotherapists, for him, are like the engineers at Renault; adjusting, modifying and correcting the machine for the best result,” said Danielle.
Nevertheless, it was expected that Robert Kubica will be one of the top running drivers of the 2011 Formula 1 season but unfortunately, it seems that it is not possible anymore now.
Kubica finished in 8th place in the drivers’ standings after scoring a handful of podiums and scoring such results in a car like the 2010 Renault is quite remarkable.
