Lotus Renault GP not satisfied with Nick Heidfeld’s performance – Formula 1 news
According to Lotus Renault GP’s Gerard Lopez, Nick Heidfeld has not been as consistent as the team was expecting him to be as a result of which they are not satisfied with his performance for the team this year.
“I'm happy with Nick's pre-season in terms of helping develop the car and the complications that come with that. I'm happy with his first part of the season but not totally happy with his leadership and performing within the team,” he told the media.
Heidfeld was signed by the team as a replacement for Robert Kubica who went through a near fatal accident during a weekend rally event before the 2011 Formula 1 season commenced.
Since he went through some major injuries, he is not going to be able to perform for the team in 2011 at least and since Heidfeld was the only good experienced driver up for the grabs at that time, the team decided to sign him for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“We brought Nick in because he's a much more experienced driver than Vitaly [Petrov] and he did a very good job with the podium in Malaysia but he has not consistently been what we would want from an experienced driver like him,” said Lopez.
Heidfeld scored a podium position at the second race of the 2011 Formula 1 season while Vitaly Petrov, who is driving for his second Formula 1 season this year secured a podium position at the first race of the season that took place in Australia.
Both of the drivers have been on an even keel which shows that Heidfeld has not done anything extraordinary for the team as a result of which the team is not happy with his performance or contribution to the team.
With just 8 races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season, the team is hoping to score the best possible results and probably make some progress in terms of performance as they are way behind their closest rivals Mercedes GP in the constructors’ standings which
is quite disappointing for the team.
