Lotus Renault GP owner Gerard Lopez says deadline extended for Robert Kubica’s decision – Formula 1
Lotus Renault GP owner Gerard Lopez has said that the deadline for decision regarding Robert Kubica’s return to the team has been extended by team principal Eric Boullier.
While speaking to Autosport.com, Lopez said, “We will look at the matter at the beginning of November. Robert will have a car to show us what he can do. The data analysis is now so good that you can see with another car whether he is physically able to return.”
Kubica had suffered severe injuries during a rally accident in Italy earlier in February 2011 which resulted in his separation from the team. He had recently underwent another operation following Renault team principal Eric Boullier’s statement that they
wanted the 26-year-old Polish driver to be part of the team for 2012 only if he was 100 percent fit.
Boullier had previously set a deadline of mid-October 2011 to know whether Kubica would be in the position to take part in next year’s season so that he could finalise their drivers’ line-up for 2012.
However, Boullier has now revised his statement a bit and has recently said that the Enstone-based outfit can wait for another month until November before it finalises whether Kubica joins the squad for 2012 or not.
This statement from the team’s owner came following Kubica’s doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli’s statement.
“I would say with certainty that Robert will be a F1 driver in 2012,” Ceccarelli told Omnicorse. “I cannot say when he will be ready but it will be between the months of November and January.”
Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli seconded Ceccarelli and commented that the driver would most certainly be able to take part in next year’s Formula 1 season, however the deadline of mid-October that has been set by the team Principal Eric Boullier seems
difficult to achieve. He said that it is still difficult to tell when Kubica will fully recover.
Let’s see whether Kubica is able to recover completely by November and rejoin Renault for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
