Lotus Renault GP’s James Allison becomes new chairman of FOTA Technical Regulations Working Group
Formula One Teams Association has recently named Lotus Renault GP’s James Allison as its new chairman for its Technical Regulations Working Group.
The organisation headed by Martin Whitmarsh, the team principal of McLaren has played a major role in the 2011 Formula 1 season as the officials of the sport mainly consult them in case of any rule change or in order to get a unanimous decision from the
teams.
Almost all of the Formula 1 teams are a part of FOTA and before Allison, Ferrari’s Aldo Costa used to be the chairman for the FOTA Technical Regulations Working Group. He had to step down from his position in order to give Ferrari more time in some other
areas of their recent operations.
Allison was unanimously appointed for this position by the members of FOTA after which the technical director of Renault stated that he would have to go through a tough time to live up to the expectations of the members of FOTA.
“It feels rather daunting. The previous occupants of the Chair have set a high standard and it is important to do the job properly,” he told the media.
James has been working with Renault quite efficiently and even in 2011, he played a major role in their car development. The team secured two podium positions in the first two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season after which it seemed that they would be one
of the top-running teams of the sport.
Nevertheless, they have not been able to secure a single podium since then as a result of which they are now in 5th place in the constructors’ standings just 3 points behind Mercedes GP.
The team is one of the best mid-running teams of the sport without any doubt but they still have to improve a lot in order to achieve their goal and become one of the top running teams of the sport.
