Lotus Renault driver Robert Kubica’s medical update - Formula 1
The Lotus Renault team boss, Eric Boullier told the media earlier today that it was still "very early" to say when the injured team driver, Robert Kubica, would be able to return to the track, but believes that the driver is recovering wonderfully.
When Kubica was taken to the hospital, after the poor crash last month, many believed that he might not be able to survive. However, the driver not only managed to survive, but also he is recovering in a rate far better than expected.
The Polish driver met a horrific accident at the beginning of February during a Rally race in Italy. Following the crash, he was flown to the nearest hospital where he underwent three surgeries last month. Currently, he is being further treated for a completely
crushed right hand, a broken arm and several fractures received in the leg and hip-bone.
The hospital’s medical staff expressed satisfaction with the way Kubica was responding to the treatment, and believed that the injuries were recovering faster than expected. However, they refrained from giving any time for complete recovery.
While talking to the media this morning, the team boss said, "He's progressed very well, and his recovery is going as well as you would dream when in that state. It’s still very early, he's just started his rehabilitation this week, and the hand
and the elbow are two tricky parts that got injured in the accident. We still need to wait a couple of weeks, I think, to have a clear understanding of the recovery."
He further reported that the initial rehabilitation process had started, however, in another few days more extensive process was expected to begin. Boullier admitted that it was a long process to make the 26-year-old come back to normal routine.
He explained, "It's not easy for him to understand (how the recovery) will go and now morale is difficult for him as well because obviously you realise how tough it will be to work and be back."
Nick Heidfeld has been signed to replace the driver in the team for the upcoming season. He will be seen behind the Lotus Renault wheel alongside the other team driver, Vitaly Petrov.
