Lotus Renault driver Vitaly Petrov hopeful of new upgrades for 2011 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov has said that he hopes the new changes, which the team has recently made in their R31 car will work well throughout the upcoming Belgium race weekend, taking place on August 28, 2011 at Spa-Francorchamps.
Petrov also mentioned that he is confident they can do better in Belgium this weekend with the new upgrades.
The Russian discussed with the media that he had a strong race at the Spa circuit in 2010, where he finished his race at the ninth place following a disappointing qualifying round.
In addition, he stated that Spa-Francorchamps is one of the best and most challenging racetracks, as it has a number of different corners, some are fast and some are low-speed. Other than that, the weather of Spa is always unpredictable, so nobody can expect
what will happen during the race.
Petrov commented, “The first half of the season was not as successful as we had hoped; we clearly lost some performance on the car as we reached the European races.”
He added, “The team needed some time to understand why we had the problems, and I think we've established that now. Our eyes are firmly fixed on the future and the races that lie in our wake. As we near the end of the season, the endurance of everyone involved
will play a bigger and bigger role, and hopefully we will be one of the best-prepared teams in that regard.”
Apart from that, the 26-year-old driver mentioned that he is not satisfied with the first half of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He added that it is a fact they were not competitive enough in the initial stages of this season.
The Enstone-based outfit driver put his team at the 12th place after starting from the same position on the grid in the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix.
After completing 11 rounds of the ongoing season, Petrov is sitting at the ninth position ahead of Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher with 32 points in the drivers’ championship at the moment.
Let’s see how he performs in the rest of the season with new updates in his car.
