Lotus Renault driver Vitaly Petrov says the team is moving in the right direction – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov has admitted that his team is moving in the right direction in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He also mentioned that he is feeling like a new man this year after taking a positive start in the ongoing season.
Petrov was performing not well in the previous seasons, but he kicked off to a good 2011 season and is still improving race by race.
The Russian driver said, “You start to be closer to the team, and the team starts to follow you - and helps you to be on top. You can work together to be on the top and be friends with them. We talk on the phone and they say there is nothing that I have
to get sorted.”
The 26-year-old driver took a positive start in the season, as he finished his initial races on the grid in a decent manner. He seemed to be struggling to get very close to the top runners from the start of the season.
The Renault team admitted that Petrov is moving in the right direction for his team and making good progress in the ongoing season.
Some former Formula 1 stars, which included Nigel Mansell and Jean Alesi, have praised the Petrov’s performance in this season.
Mansell said that the Renault driver did a fantastic job in the ongoing season and that he is improving race by race. He also mentioned that his current progress showed that he can beat other strong teams including Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren.
The other Formula 1 former star, Alesi added about Petrov that he surprised the viewers by his 2011 performance.
Apart from that, Petrov discussed his Canadian Grand Prix and said, “All drivers want to win and be on the top, but I think we are moving in the right direction. Last year was not fantastic, but this year there have been a lot of improvements, and we are
still improving together.”
The team driver had a successful race weekend in Montreal recently, where he finished his race in the fifth spot after his crash in the previous Monaco Grand Prix.
Petrov went on to mention that he is looking forward to win the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix. Let’s see if he is able to do that.
