Lotus aim qualifying improvements in 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that they are aiming to make improvements in their qualifying pace so as to score some competitive points in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
Allison said that they have planned to introduce some essential updates in their car for the race ahead in order to enhance its pace to narrow the gap to the teams in the front.
He also said that they couldn’t get the desired results from the upgrades which they launched in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit and struggled due to the rainy conditions during the qualifying. However, he asserted that they are targeting to improve
their performance in the qualifying of the upcoming race so that they may be able to secure competitive grid position to attain better results.
“Silverstone didn't flatter us at all. But if you look at our P3 running at Silverstone, I suspect we would have been in contention for front row, or second row for sure. So in a qualifying session which was mixed up by rain, I don't think we can draw any
strong conclusions. However, we are making progress in qualifying and we'll be in mix for first couple of rows in Hockenheim,” he said. “However, as the season has progressed we have improved our knowledge about how best to handle this characteristic and
we are hopeful that our qualifying performances will improve.”
At present, they are standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 144 points. Furthermore, they are just 2 points ahead of McLaren and 8 points behind Ferrari.
Meanwhile, their drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have also performed quite convincingly in the season until now and are standing at fifth and seventh positions in the drivers’ rankings with 83 and 61 points.
Over and above, it will be important to mention here that although the Enstone based team has not been able to win any race in the season so far. Nonetheless, they are very much hopeful for the season ahead and are positively looking forward to perform well
in the forthcoming race.
