Lotus aiming point scoring finishes in 2011 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus are looking confident to score some points in this season as they have shifted to Renault V8 engines and Red Bull transmission.
Lotus have not launched their car yet officially rather gave some pictures for media presentation ahead of Group Lotus but they are looking very confident about the fight. Their new car T128 will be launched on Wednesday and will take part in the test sessions.
Although the ‘Lotus’ naming issue is due to hit the courts before the season starts but Team Lotus sent out a clear message yesterday stating ‘Black to the future.’
Team Lotus Chairman Gerard Lopez also said that Lotus name would not disappear from team’s name regardless of the court’s decision.
The team used the same black and gold livery for T128 which Ayrton Senna and teammate Nigel Mansell drove for British team in 1980’s.
Lotus technical director Mike Gascoyne said, “The car really will be a midfield runner. It's a modern F1 car and I'm very confident it is a big step up. It's the start of a process that takes Team Lotus back to the front of the grid.”
Mike also said, “There's been almost no carry-over of parts for the 2011 car, whereas normally you'd have a substantial carry-over and the chance to optimize last year's parts.”
As Lotus told earlier that the 2010 car was just a representation on the grid and that 2011’s car will be a challenger.
Lotus driver Jarno Trulli also seemed confident about winning the races as he said, “Sitting on the grid in Bahrain this year (for the opening grand prix on March 13) will feel very different.”
He also said that with Cosworth engine in 2010 the team was just looking for some respect on the grid and at least finish the races but this year the target is already set and that he will be going for it.
