Lotus aims to beat Red Bull Racing in the title fight – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they are targeting to keep up the level of their performance in the season ahead and will provide everything to their veteran driver, Kimi Raikkonen to beat Red Bull Racing in this year’s championship fight.
Raikkonen has performed amazingly well in the season until now. Although, he could only qualify for 6th grid slot in the Hungarian Grand Prix, he managed to secure an impressive second podium finish after beating Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
Currently, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship and is just 38 points behind the German driver.
Boullier has said that they need to keep on attaining competitive results with consistency in the season ahead. Moreover, he insisted that they are targeting to score podiums in every race so as to make their position stronger in the title fight. Besides,
he expressed that they are ready to provide everything to Raikkonen which he may need to improve his performance so as to beat the defending champions in this season.
“It is the most important thing to have the pace, and there will be some tracks where we struggle a little bit more, but I'm sure more or less we will be consistent and fighting for podiums every weekend. That's good for constructors' chase and obviously
if we can give Kimi same push and start to beat Red Bull every weekend - okay, maybe I'm dreaming, but here we did it,” Boullier said.
Furthermore, he said that they must work hard to improve their tyre management and to increase the downforce in order to score good points in the season ahead.
“Maybe in some way we could have a good race there because less downforce you get the more harsh with tyres you are, so we should get the benefit of our car design,” he added.
At present, the Enstone based squad are standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 183 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of Force India and behind their main rival, Ferrari. Let’s see how they perform in the forthcoming races.
