Lotus boss Eric Boullier believes FIA should not make haste on cost cutting policies – Formula 1
Lotus team boss Eric Boullier says that Formula 1 should consider all the possible options available to make cost cuts effective before implementing them.
Boullier suggest that FIA should not be rushing into agreeing to cost cutting changes in the name of just cost cutting. They need to have a positive effect on the sport for the long term and not spoil the flair of the sport.
FIA may feel hurried due to a looming deadline of the next 48 hours to get the new regulations in place for the 2012 season. Boullier who is also the vice chairman of Formula One Teams Association says that the wrong decisions on cost cutting can be more
damaging than beneficial if teams are too hasty in coming up with the plans that do not work in the long-term.
FIA is deciding on a number of major issues such as the restrictions on testing, new personnel limits and the much debated Resource Restriction Agreement.
Boullier said that he is happy to know that most teams almost all are in favour of making cost cuts in order to tackle the stiff challenge the economic downturn has imposed all over the globe. The smaller teams may not be able survive without a cost cutting
plan for the future seasons of Formula 1.
“It is good that everybody in the paddock understands that we need to be thinking carefully about the future of F1,” he told AUTOSPORT. “But we definitely need to take the right decision, and we definitely do not need to rush into a decision that we might
regret.”
“We made some decisions already in the past which cost us money now; and may cost us more money in the future. So we need to make sure that we go the right way and don't rush. We are all in favour of making F1 better, more sustainable and having a long term
plan. Cost-cutting is part of the strategy, but we need to do it consciously,” he added.
It will be interesting to see what decisions FIA actually takes and how those decision affect the future of Formula 1.
