Lotus confident about performing well in upcoming races of 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus are confident that the team will be able to deliver on its target of improving its qualifying results in the coming Grands Prix.
Lotus have shown good potential in the season. Both its drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have been able to secure podium finishes on more than one occasion.
Lotus E20 is also one of the few cars on the grid that manages the Pirelli tyres quite well with relatively lower degradation as seen in the recently concluded Canadian GP as well.
Grosjean was able to secure second place finish in Montreal and showed good consistency in the race under hot conditions.
The team feels that the qualifiers are going to be the key for them to come up with better results. If they can start the race from the sharp end of the grid, they can reach better positions during the race.
“I am not sure if the car is very sensitive,” team Principal Eric Boullier said when asked if the 2012 Lotus was best only at hot temperatures.
“We know these tyres have a range that is very small, and obviously when you have a car that is conservative with the tyres you need some help to heat the tyres and make them work. But we definitely have some ideas about what to do now. There is a way to
do it. I am not saying we will be fighting for pole position, but we will definitely be qualifying better,” he added.
Eric Boullier admitted earlier that the team aspired to finish fourth but after the performances of his drivers in the season they have to reassess their goals.
Raikkonen coming after a two year hiatus did not show any signs of rustiness as he has performed well in his comeback season. Grosjean a rookie has also been very good when you consider that it was his comeback as well. Grosjean has been out of Formula 1
for almost two years and has done really well with the Lotus team.
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as the season progresses.
