Lotus confirm Jerome d’Ambrosio will replace Romain Grosjean in 2012 Italian GP – Formula 1 news
Lotus has confirmed that their test driver, Jerome d’Ambrosio will replace Romain Grosjean in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix which will be held at Autodromo de Monza this weekend.
Grosjean was penalised with one race suspension after the accident in the Belgian GP which was caused by him as he drifted across Lewis Hamilton of McLaren in the opening lap at turn one. Moreover, due to his mistake, Hamilton, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari
and Sergio Perez of Sauber also faced retirements and remained unable to score even a single point.
Afterwards, the race stewards made the decision and banned the Frenchman to take part in the forthcoming race. Later on, the reports came which stated that Enstone based team will come up with d’Ambrosio in the Italian GP which has now been confirmed by
them.
The team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that although it will be tough for the youngster to perform well in the forthcoming race in such circumstances. However, he said that they are very much hopeful that he will attain better results as he has
raced during the preceding year with Virgin.
In addition, he said that they have full faith in their Belgian driver who is feeling very encouraged and is looking forward to deliver his best in the race ahead.
“When we signed Jérôme as our third driver we signed a man who is highly motivated, fresh, talented and who contested the full 2011 season,” Boullier said. “We hope that this will pay dividends when he drives the car this weekend in Monza. We know that Jérôme
is well integrated into the team and that he did a good job when he drove the E20 at the Mugello test. Now he has the challenge of a Grand Prix at the challenging circuit of Monza, in a car which is capable of finishing on the podium.”
Besides, he said that they are hoping to see support for d’Ambrosio from the spectators at Monza. Over and above, he said that they are aiming to score points with consistency in the remaining eight grands prix of the current season.
