Lotus driver Jarno Trulli’s performance in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far
Lotus driver Jarno Trulli has been unable to score single point for the team in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, due to having a power steering issue.
Trulli made his debut in Formula 1 in 1996. The Prost Gauloises Blondes team brought him to the mainstream and he drove for them for three years.
In 2000, he switched to Benson & Hedges Jordan team and spent two years of his F1 career with them. After that, Trulli was selected by Mild Seven Renault F1 team for the 2003 and 2004 season’s races.
The Italian driver joined the Panasonic Toyota Racing team during the 2004 F1 season and he stayed with them for the next five years. He learnt a lot of things about the sport by working with them during races.
In 2010, Lotus Racing team confirmed him for the season’s races. He took part in 19 races throughout the season and ended up at the 21st place without scoring a single point for them.
After testing the new Pirelli tyres and different features of Lotus new car in 2011 winter test sessions, Trulli took part in his second F1 season with Lotus.
The 37-year-old driver did not have positive start to the 2011 F1 season, as he finished his first round at the 13th place in Australia following the disappointing qualifying round at Albert Park racetrack.
In the following Grand Prix, Trulli had clutch issue in his T128 car and due to that he had to retire from the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix after completing 20 laps.
The 2011 Chinese Grand Prix proved not so good for the team driver, as he finished his race at the 19th place after starting from the 20th place on the Shanghai International circuit.
The Hingham-based outfit driver tried to cover one position in the 2011 Turkish Grand Prix. He came at the 18th place in the final race classifications.
In the next Spanish Grand Prix, Trulli was again at the 18th position after Turkish race.
He made some improvements in terms of performance during the Monaco Grand Prix. Trulli started his Monte Carlo race from the 18th position and ended up in the 13th spot after struggling on the sets of supersoft
and soft tyres.
Trulli dropped down his position in the next Canadian Grand Prix, as he could not make progress in wet conditions at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. He claimed 16th position for Renault in the Canadian race weekend.
The Lotus driver pushed back to the midfield in the 2011 European Grand Prix due to having a power steering issue. He finished his race at the 20th place after starting from the same position on the Valencia Street Circuit.
After the race, Trulli told the media that he had a power steering issue from the start of the ongoing season and due to that he could not perform well on the grid during the races.
The British Grand Prix proved unlucky for Trulli, as he retired from the race after completing 10 laps due to an oil leakage issue.
He did not take part in the German Grand Prix, as Team Lotus gave a chance of racing to Hispania Racing Team driver Karun Chandhok for the Grand Prix.
The team fixed power steering issue of Trulli’s car ahead of the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix. After completing 17 laps of the Budapest race, the team driver retired from the Grand Prix due to having a water leakage issue.
