Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen believes they can certainly end 2012 on a high – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that they have a competent car and can certainly end the 2012 Formula 1 season on a high.
Raikkonen has performed impressively well in the season until now and has been considered as one of the most competitive title contenders.
At present, he is standing at third place in the drivers’ championship. Moreover, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and is behind his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Even though, he has delivered amazing performances in the season so far, however, he has not been able to score even a single race win and has struggled with his qualifying pace.
Nevertheless, he is hoping to come up stronger in the remaining three grands prix of the ongoing season as they have made some considerable improvements in their car.
“We have improved,” he said. “But while you gain some downforce, you give away some horsepower, so we'll try to get it back.”
In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the Abu Dhabi GP and are aiming to attain good result so as to be able to make their position stronger in this year’s championship.
“But it is not a very easy thing, and with time we will come back with normal horsepower and still have the downforce. It is a good thing that we at least bring parts to the car this year and we learn things, so we are much better with the new car with those
things. We have improved, but everyone else makes improvements too. We are closer than we were at Monza or Spa for example with the laptime,” he added.
Currently, the Enstone based team is standing at 4th place in the constructors’ championship with 263 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Mercedes and are behind their major rival, McLaren.
The British squad has been deemed as one of the most competent teams in this year’s championship and it will be interesting to see how Raikkonen and his teammate, Romain Grosjean perform in the remainder of the season.
