Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen disappointed after 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen is feeling disappointed with his performance in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
The Finnish driver performed reasonably well during the qualifying of the Spanish GP as he was able to secure 4th place in the grid.
Even though, he secured an impressive third podium finish in the race, however, he expressed that he is very much upset with his performance as he thought that he could have done much better.
“I expected us to be a bit stronger in the race, especially at the beginning,” Raikkonen said. “At the end we were very good, but it was too late.”
Nevertheless, he said that they have managed to perform quite convincingly towards the end of the race after struggling with the wrong decision of the initial pit stop.
“But we showed in the end that we have the speed,” he added. “Maybe we took the wrong choice in the first pit stop. In the end we were not fast enough in the beginning and that cost us the race, so I was not so disappointed during the race because I saw
that I couldn’t follow them at the beginning.”
Furthermore, he praised the efforts of the team and admired the car E20 which has shown incredible pace in the season so far.
On the other hand, his teammate, Romain Grosjean secured fourth place finish which was also a good finish as the French driver faced a problem in his car’s front wing just after the first lap.
Besides, the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that after the qualifying on Saturday, they were expecting the same results which they had achieved in Bahrain GP but they could not come up to their expectations in Barcelona.
Nonetheless, he said that they have the right potential to fight for a competitive finish in this year’s championship fight. He added that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the races ahead.
In addition, he said that they can claim victory if they keep on making the essential developments and the necessary preparations for the forthcoming season.
