Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen says there is still room for improvement – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that there is still some room for improvements in their car after setting the fastest time in the second free Friday practice
session at Bahrain International Circuit.
Raikkonen topped the timesheets in FP2 of the Bahrain Grand Prix and seemed really strong behind the wheel of his car. However, he has said that he didn’t feel
good during the practice session as they still need to make some essential step-ups in their car in order to improve its pace to perform well in the forthcoming race.
Besides, he said that they are hoping to come up stronger in the third practice session and the qualifying to secure a competitive grid position for the race.
“It didn't feel particularly good today, the car, I think there's improvements to be done. The lap time was pretty OK so obviously I made some mistakes - especially
in the last corner - so we lost quite a bit of time but hopefully we can improve the feeling a bit for tomorrow so we will see what we can do,” he said.
In addition, he asserted that they can perform even better if they will be able to make some essential modifications in their car.
“It's not 100% where we want to be but the lap time seems to be more or less there so we have to improve and then I'm sure we can do better lap times,” he added.
The Finnish driver has performed incredibly well in the first three rounds of the season. He claimed an amazing victory in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne
after taking a start from 7th grid slot. Then, he came 7th in the Malaysian GP after setting off from 10th grid position. In the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he managed to secure an impressive second
podium finish.
At present, he is standing at second place in the drivers’ championship. Additionally, he is ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and behind his major rival, Sebastian
Vettel of Red Bull Racing. It will be thrilling to see how he shows up in this weekend’s race.
