Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen says they are eager to achieve more in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has said that they are trying their best to achieve more points in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead to secure a competitive position in the championship fight.
Raikkonen said that he is currently standing at fifth place in the drivers’ rankings and is aiming to close the gap to the contenders in the front in the forthcoming races in order to fight for the championship title. Moreover, he said that they are planning
to narrow down the gap to the teams in the front for which they are pushing really hard.
“I am now fifth in the championship and obviously aiming at getting more points than the guys in front of me. The smaller the gap to the leaders is the better for me and for the team. Every race from here on is very important. The whole team is pushing 100%
and we need to beat our rivals and take more points than they do every time,” he said.
Presently, the Enstone based team is at third place in the constructors’ championship with 192 points. Besides, they are ahead of Ferrari and are behind McLaren.
Even though, they are quite behind the leading team, Red Bull Racing, nevertheless, they are positively looking forward to score some reasonable points in the races ahead to reduce the gap to the front.
“We’ve been improving our position in the championships – both for myself and for the team – so as long as we keep doing that hopefully the win will come,” he added.
It will be important to mention that although the British team has performed tremendously well in the season so far. However, they have not been able to claim a race victory in the first half of the season and they believe that it is due to the lack of their
qualifying pace.
Nonetheless, their team principal, Eric Boullier has recently said that they are making the best of the efforts to improve their qualifying performance in the approaching races and are aiming to win the championship title.
