Lotus driver Romain Grosjean cannot wait for Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean admits he is waiting to get back in the Lotus car after he had to go through disappointment at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Monaco GP was a tough one for all drivers and the race saw eight retirements including last race winner Pastor Maldonado. Grosjean however looked good in the build up to the race weekend. The qualifiers were the first set back when he was only able to qualify
for fifth position but started the race from fourth because of Michael Schumacher’s five place grid-penalty.
The race was even worse as he failed to make the first corner of the track and had a contact with Fernando Alonso and Schumacher forcing himself out of the race.
Grosjean termed the incident as bad luck and played it down while admitting that he wanted to put the incident back moving towards Canadian Grand Prix.
“Up until the race itself the Monaco Grand Prix was very promising,” Grosjean said. “We had strong pace all weekend, even if qualifying wasn't quite as good as it might have been. It certainly could have been worse, but we were slightly disappointed with
qualifying in fifth. The race itself was very short for me.”
“I didn't get the greatest start, and it's so crowded off the line in Monaco that sometimes there just isn't enough room. In this case there wasn't and my race ended. After a difficult day like that you want to jump straight back into the car and have a
proper race! Let's hope that is the case in Canada and we can show what we are capable of!” he added.
Grosjean will also be looking forward to the Canadian challenge as it will show the true pace of the Lotus car that has so far been very impressive in the season. The long straights at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit will give him a good chance to move up
in the rankings if he can do well in the qualifiers.
The qualifiers will be key though but it seems that the quickest car will benefit from the track. It will be a good change after the Monaco GP which was all skill and technical driving.
