Lotus driver Romain Grosjean hit with further penalty – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has been handed further penalty of 20 seconds due to which he has now fallen down to sixth place in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Grosjean had a contact with Jenson Button of McLaren at Turn 6 of the Hungaroring and later overtook Felipe Massa of Ferrari at Turn 4 by going completely off the track. After the first incident, the race stewards decided to penalise the French driver for
causing the collision and slapped him with drive-through penalty for passing Massa.
Although, the Frenchman accepted his first penalty and even apologised to Button, he didn’t express an agreement with the second penalty. He said that he is extremely happy with his performance in the preceding race and admired the efforts of all his team
members for providing him a competitive car for the weekend. However, he insisted that he lost some crucial points because of the penalties because of which he is feeling a little disappointed.
“For sure this is one that got away, but I'm very happy with my race and I honestly don't think I could have done much more,” he said. “Maybe the strategy didn't quite work how we wanted, but the car felt really good and it was the traffic that cost us.
Without this maybe there would never have been a drive-through penalty which for sure didn't help. I haven't seen the footage yet and I thought it was a good move, but unfortunately the stewards took a different view.”
“I've no problem with the time-added for the incident with Jenson and I apologised to him afterwards,” he added.
It will be important to mention that the Brazilian driver himself said that Grosjean didn’t deserve the penalty for the overtaking move after the race.
At present, the 27-year-old is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 49 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Button and behind Massa. In contrast, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen is standing at second position in the championship with
134 points. It will be thrilling to see how he shows up in the season ahead.
