Lotus driver Romain Grosjean thinks their car suits Yas Marina Circuit – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean hopes to perform well in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he believes that their car suits Yas Marina Circuit after the Friday practice.
Grosjean seemed quite strong in the second free practice session and came 5th in the timesheets. Moreover, he was behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and stayed ahead of his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen.
The Frenchman thinks that their car suits the layout of the track in Abu Dhabi much more than the Buddh International Circuit where the Indian GP took place during the last weekend.
Furthermore, he said that they successfully gathered the essential information regarding their update package during the first two practice sessions which will help in advancing further.
Besides, he said that they are happy with their progress until now and are positively looking forward to perform well in the qualifying.
“It's a track that suits us a little better,” he said. “In India our Friday was very poor but here's it was much better. It was a good run and we've got lots of information, so it was good driving today. This is where we want to be and this is the type of
Friday we want to have.”
In addition, he said that he is expecting a tough competition in the race ahead as McLaren and Red Bull Racing seem very competitive. Nonetheless, he said that he is feeling encouraged after FP2.
“Looking at their team-mates' time it's going to be difficult, but looking at today's times it's possible,” he added. “I don't think I drove the best lap of my life on the option tyres.”
He also said that some of their upgrades showed impressive outcomes except the Coanda-effect exhaust which didn’t provided the desired result.
Even though, the French driver has faced huge criticism over his hostile driving style which has caused many accidents in the season so far. Nevertheless, he has still got full support from his squad and the team principal, Eric Boullier has said that their
driver has learned a lot from his mistakes.
Let’s see how he shows up in the third practice session and the qualifying.
