Lotus driver Romain Grosjean tops final day of the Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean tops the third day time sheet at the Mugello test.
Grosjean has topped the sheets on day two although tied with Kamui Kobayashi but it has been a fantastic run for the team and Lotus must be a happy camp after the test was completed as they have managed to come up with probably the best results overall during
the test.
Sebastian Vettel was second to Grosjean, as he came 0.232 seconds close to his time in the morning session. The German was unable to improve on his time in the afternoon and Grosjean finished the day on top.
Fernando Alonso in the updated Ferrari has also shown great improvement from how troublesome the F2012 has proved to be for the team since it debuted. The Spaniard was able to set the third fastest time on the final day of the test and showed promising signs
of a competitive car ahead of the European tour.
Daniel Ricciardo in the Toro Rosso completed the final day with the fourth best time of the day and behind him was Sergio Perez in the Sauber. Nico Hulkenberg had the sixth fastest time of the day followed by Pastor Maldonado in the Williams.
The Mercedes ended the final day with the 8th fastest time, Nico Rosberg was not looking like he was looking at the time sheets and made good use of the time at the track to get as much data out of the car as possible by completing 129 laps.
Oliver Turvey was driving for McLaren and had the 9th best time of the day. Paul di Resta in the Force India car was behind Turvey. Force India is another team that is looking to update its car in order to move up the ranks on the grid.
Heikki Kovalainen was in the Caterham finishing with the 11th fastest time of the third day of the Mugello test followed by Timo Glock in the Marussia.
The Mugello test has been definitely proved to be a good measure of the updates every team has introduced on their cars. Now the teams look to the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for next week. Ferrari is the only team to add further major updates to its car
before the Spanish GP.
It will be interesting to see how the season goes ahead as the standings are still very open with no clear favourites yet.
