Lotus focused to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that after facing difficulties in the last race they are just focusing to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
The British team could only score 2 points in the Monaco GP. However, Boullier said that they are eagerly looking forward to improve their performance in the next race.
“We approach the Grand Prix as any other. We have a car which has shown good pace all season and two drivers who have both shown they can deliver podium performances in this highly competitive season. Yes, we are coming off the back of a disappointing weekend
in Monaco, but we’ve shrugged off worse setbacks than that,” he said.
Lotus have emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in this year and they are presently standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points. Moreover, they are 25 points ahead of Mercedes AMG and 22 points behind McLaren.
Besides, their pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, has performed quite convincingly in the season until now.
The Finnish driver who secured podium finishes in the fourth and fifth grands prix is currently at 6th position in the drivers’ championship with 51 points. In addition, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of
Mercedes.
On the other hand, Grosjean is presently at 8th place in the drivers’ rankings with 35 points. Additionally, he is 10 points behind Button and 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
It will be important to mention that during the start of the season, Boullier said that they should not be considered as second class team anymore as they have got all what it takes to be the world champion.
Above and beyond, he said that they are trying their best to make the significant developments and the necessary preparations so as to enhance the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order to make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
